LocalTV is the UK’s largest local broadcast television group, operating nine channels that reach over 7 million homes. They deliver high-quality video and advertising content across TV, digital, and social media platforms, reaching an audience of more than 300,000 people each month.
Challenge
LocalTV’s in-house Windows-based video processing system had become outdated, slow, and error-prone. It could not keep up with the growing demand for high-volume, large-format video content and was causing upload delays and processing bottlenecks.
With hundreds of large files being added regularly, the infrastructure lacked scalability, reliability, and modern security. LocalTV needed to replace their legacy system with a future-proof, cloud-based solution that could significantly improve video rendering speed while reducing operational costs.
Solution
Firemind designed a modern, cloud-native infrastructure using AWS Managed Services to replace LocalTV’s outdated video processing system. Video transcoding was migrated from on-premises servers to AWS MediaConvert, orchestrated via Amazon ECS and AWS Lambda for scalable, automated processing.
Content delivery was optimised with Amazon CloudFront as a CDN and Amazon S3 for secure, unlimited storage. System monitoring and scaling were automated through CloudWatch, while security was strengthened with AWS WAF, encryption at rest with KMS, and encryption in transit with ACM.
This architecture improved processing speed, ensured uninterrupted scalability, reduced costs, and delivered a future-proof foundation for LocalTV’s growing media operations.
